An email goes a long way in this digital era, and this is why it’s crucial to use it to your advantage. Email funneling is used in the marketing niche to convert viewers into buyers and then into followers. It may be hard to swallow, but email marketing is the most effective way for a small or big business to communicate with its clients. Since most Americans have a smartphone right in their pockets, why not use it to your advantage?

So…what is this e-mail funneling?

An email funnel is a chain of emails tailored to the interactions of your customer (in a non-spammy way) with your content. Its criteria, such as if a message is opened or not, for example, will help you decide what to do next. Before reading, you may learn more about email-marketing here.

Example #1: If I own an online store and a client comes along and adds a coffee mug to their cart, but they decide to leave before purchasing, I can send them an email with a promo code for 15% to encourage them to complete their transaction. This method is one of the most common email funneling techniques, and it’s triggered by leaving the website without a purchase.

Complicated terms aside, it’s pretty simple. It’s a list of pre-written emails that you will get send depending on the client’s way of reacting to your content. By responding, I mean engaging, no matter if you are a store owner, or a blogger, everyone can benefit from this method. How to get started?

You will need an email marketing platform, like ConvertKit, GetResponse, and others available on the market. Before choosing, do your research! No one can tell you that one platform is a 100% better than another, they are just different, find the one that works for you.

After choosing your platform, create your funnel, experiment and try new things. Every platform is different, so we can’t provide detailed instructions. There is no A + B formula for guaranteed success, but you can use these tips to get you started on the right path…

Start by planning, don’t act before thinking

The idea of email funneling campaign can sound too convincing, but don’t let it get ahead of you. Like every masterpiece, planning is more important than the rest. Begin by researching effective email marketing campaigns, and learning from them. Don’t copy them, stay original, while inspired. Find a way to separate yourself from the rest

Continue by asking yourself, why do I want people to read my email list? An inbox is survival of the fittest, most of the emails someone receives end up in the trash. To stay relevant, a lot of small companies go for the personal approach. Instead of sending promotional emails, they will send written emails (without any design, just text) addressing the client personally (don’t worry, your email platform will do this automatically). This approach is mostly used to sell services, like subscriptions and courses since the client will feel special.

Always improve, never settle

When your sales and conversions double because of your funnel, don’t think that its over. You always have to improve your funnel based on the changes in your industry. Most companies will continuously adjust to stay up-to-date with current events. This means that if you stop growing, you will fall back.
